This is one of those records that doesn’t fit neatly into any genre or category. Sure, it’s called Country is as Country Does, and sure Colt Ford wears a cowboy hat and plays guitar. But that’s where the similarity to regular Country music ends. Move over “Naked Cowboy” and behold Colt Ford: the Rapping Cowboy.
One commenter on last.fm calls Ford “Unintentional comedy at it’s finest”, which was my first reaction too. But listen to more than two bars of this record and you’ll find that this guy can actually flow. This is no novelty act. And that may be the aim of Country is as Country Does, which arrives as a CD and DVD combo, and provides a window into Ford’s method.
