Already Free is the new studio album from the Derek Trucks Band, and it’s poised to break them out of the jamband scene and onto the radio dial. Derek is the nephew of Butch Trucks, drummer and founding member of the Allman Brothers Band. Growing up on the road and on stage, Derek has long been wowing audiences with his slide guitar chops, and has himself been a pivotal member of the Allman Brothers for over a decade. Now at the tender age of 29 Trucks is about to celebrate 15 years as the leader of his own band.
Here’s Derek Trucks, in his own words, talking about the release of Already Free, life on the road with wife and fellow guitar phenom Susan Tedeschi, and plans for 2009 (which include a big tour to mark the 40th anniversary of the Allman Brothers).
